gas prices are high, right?
and last summer they were really high, right?
and this summer they're going to be really high, right?
well, when you're filling up your car please keep in mind that leeraymond, the former ceo of exxon/mobil, has on average made $144,573EVERY DAY that he's been employed by exxon/mobil for the last 10 years.
that's right.
his DAILY SALARY for the last ten years has averaged
out to $144,573.
per day.
or, $686,000,000.00 for the last 10 years.
that's his executive compensation.
i'd just like to say it again.
he is one person.
and he has been the ceo of exxon/mobil.
and his salary for the last 10 years has been $686,000,000.00, or $144,573 per day.
it does go without saying that he's an old friend of bush and cheneyand that exxon/mobil are huge supporters of the republican party(theparty who have been in charge while gas prices are at an all time high, the party who've created the largest deficit in the history of the u.s,the party who've created the largest federal government in the historyof the u.s, the party who've given us a war that's cost each tax payer$2,500 a year, and the party whose leaders are being investigated andindicted).
the war in iraq is really nothing more than corporate welfare/subsidies for the oil and defense industries.

Sometimes I just like to steal what Moby says because it's what I'm thinking.

This guy killed his mom, ate her guts with a spoon and wore her face around the house for a week bro.

You don't make money like that, without completely disregarding any ethical standing you may have had in the first place and declaring all your fellow human beings as objects that merely exist for your pleasure.

Plain and simple.

Iver if you ever pull bank like that I would hope it would be because you are doing ethical things with your life and I'm sure you would helping out the world by sharing what you recieve with those that have nothing. However no one person really deserves that kind of income.
And I'm proud as can be of you anyway.

I've thought at lot about my position on the war and on oil.

I should point out that if the goal was to protect/promote oil production, the goal failed. The Middle East, Iraq in particular, produces less oil now than it did prior to the invasion. So I am not sure where people are getting the idea that this is over oil.

I think when people consider what Bush has done from a conspiratorial point of view, I think you are giving the man far too much credit. He's not that Machiavellian.

The other thing I'd like to know is...and I am not disputing it...where Moby got the stats on the compensation. It would not be surprising to see nearly $70 million a year go to an oil CEO, but I'd also like to note that if that much is being made by an American CEO, how much do you think is being made by the Saudi/Yemeni/UAE arabs producing the majority of our oil? Right now, the price of oil is $72.50 USD per barrel and for what reason? Other than Iraq, there's been almost no less production than in past years. In fact, the Middle East is currently producing more oil than it ever has.

But I think the American people have a lot of burden to shoulder here, too. Gas is nearly $3 per gallon for regular, about double what it was a little over a year ago. Yet, SUV sales are on the rise. Major moves toward producing hybrid vehicles have stalled. The average vehicle on the road gets about 25 mpg compared to about 40 mpg during the 1980s. Heck, back then, you could buy a Honda CRX that would get you nearly 60 mpg.

Gas goes higher, yet we continue to buy high gas consumption vehicles. Jeep, the brand touted as being the most concerned with the environment, has yet to release a hybrid car or SUV.

This is not a Republican or Democrat issue - this is a reflection of a fat, happy, overprosperous and lazy society in America.

I love snow more than you.

I call asshattery!

Suggesting the war is protection or promotion of oil production, is a very simple look at a very complicated chain of events surrounding the attack.

However, to defend the point, the amount of current production right now is rather moot.

America now has permanent military bases surrounding the entire region, several in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, and I believe we managed to strangle some permanent bases elsewhere but I can't recall right now.

These are permanent military facilities, capable of war with several surrounding regions, not temporary fortifications to police a state if we so choose.

You can clearly see their objectives on the PNAC web page. They're not exactly suggesting their intentions are anything short of what they've managed to get us into.

You'll notice that the companies that are now rebuilding Iraq are all US companies, there was no bidding process internationally to help put the nation back together. I'm sure you can imagine how much money there is to be made in rebuilding an entire country from school books to oil pipelines to telecommunications to simply repairing houses and buildings.

Every single company doing this, is an American company, in most cases easily tied to the White house. The Vice President, and Defense secretary actually both have strong financial ties to the main recipients of these contracts. This is all publicly available information a quick google search can prove all of these standings.

I don't think anyone would begin to suggest that both the White House and the Middle Eastern Oil Tsars aren't profiting duplicitously, they've obviously been working together since the 70's financing eachother's financial adventures since the very beginning. This is also easily proven in the public domain.

I don't really know that SUV sales are really on the rise, I'd like to know where that information comes from. To be honest most of the people I know are trying to purchase more economical vehicles. It can be scary at times sharing the road with SUV's, I can't tell you how often I hear about some family in a car that was killed by some crazy bitch on a cell phone driving an SUV. So if you have a family, and safety is your concern, SUV is the way to go. That's a big part of the sell. Safety and comfort.

I'll give it to you there, I don't necessarily know about the fat part, I think we're not the most obese nation it's a bit of a generalization, and I'd hardly call us lazy, that's insulting it's been statistically suggested that Americans now have more stringent workweeks than Japan and have for quite some time. If an American goes to a job in Europe, or Aus, or most places in the world, they're going to tear your office to shreds and demand that everyone get their shit together and stop being so lazy. Ask anybody that works with my MOM at Telstra in AUS.

:)

We are however overindulgent, and we're fed that we have a god given right to be every day every which way we turn, because the people that are indulging us make a shit ton of money off of it. I don't believe it, but I try to see things from a different perspective.

Not that I really matter anyway.

And no, democrats are absolutely no better or less deluded than the republicans. It's all the same machine, driving us swiftly towards our own destruction.

I'd look up the story on SUVs for you, but you seem smart enough to do the research on your own. I caught an article in the Atlanta Journal Constitution recently about how GM was seeing something like a 10 percent increase in SUV sales in the last quarter, primarily on the Tahoe, which is likely one of their worst performers in the gas consumption area.

As for personal observations, I see the families at the school my children attend showing up with new SUV Lexus, Chevrolet, Ford and other models. But I can also say that SUVs are not the be-all end-all of family vehicles. The mini-van, while not the height of cool, is still an incredibly safe and more economical solution. SUVs, more often than not, are status symbols.

I do notice that American companies are the primary rebuilders in Iraq and I don't think that there should have been an international bidding process. Regardless of what people thought about the invasion of Iraq, we appealed to the world for help. France, German, Russia, China and others voiced the opinion that they were against the invastion. Why then, should we allow other countries to come in and - as you pointed out - dip into the well of wealth that will come from rebuilding when it has primarily been our country's responsibility to shoulder the cost of this war?

That's like saying you spent the money to buy land, clear it, grade it, build a building on it and then your neighbors want to hold a lottery on who gets to be the landlord, despite your investment.

On American people, fat was more of a modifier for our general personal wealth rather than actual obesity. I work hard as an American, but I also realize that when my steak is not cooked to perfection or when my drink isnt perfectly cold at a restaurant, I tend to complain. Despite the fact that I have it better than about 70 percent of the planet.

I'm proud of my sons
=)

I don't know if Moby's facts are exact or not but I'm guessing they aren't to far off from the truth.

George Bush well he's a perfect front man for a large group of imperialists.

Hey I don't see much of you, how are you doing?
